Planning for Progress

Pinellas County Schools hosted a series of community meetings across the district to share school-specific data and gather feedback on population and enrollment trends, facility planning and school utilization.

Library & Makerspace Programming

Mrs. Kappeler coordinates the many programs that operate out of the Media Center. First and foremost, we are a library for our 500 students in PK3 through 5th grade.  We are a neighborhood rich in legacy and tradition.  For many of our families, we are the only library they use in the wider community.

In 2024, Westgate was one of only 19 school libraries in Florida to be recognized as a Florida Power Library for librarian leadership, programming and community outreach. Our librarian was also recognized at the national AASL (American Association for School Librarians) Leadership Conference for her outstanding elementary school programming.

FAMILY READING DAY

We welcome families into our library anytime.  Some of our favorite events are Reading Under The Stars and Family Reading Day which are held each Fall. Families come together to learn about library programs and how to help their child make gains by reading at home.

HOW FAMILIES CAN BE INVOLVED IN OUR LIBRARY.

We are always open to having parents and family members volunteer in the library as guest readers for our VPK and Kindergarten story time. We also welcome parent volunteers to help out during our Makerspace time.

MAKERSPACE IN THE LIBRARY

We have a busy Makerspace in our library where students can explore hands-on learning activities at different times throughout the year.
