Planning for Progress

Pinellas County Schools hosted a series of community meetings across the district to share school-specific data and gather feedback on population and enrollment trends, facility planning and school utilization.

Student Experiences

First Grade Students took a fieldtrip to build teamwork.

STUDENT FIELD TRIPS

Students in all grades participate in at least two field trips each year.  Field Trips allow for students to engage with the wider community and work collaboratively with each other.  Students from Westgate have visited Clam Bayou, traveled to Kennedy Space Center, attended theatre performances, Enterprise Village, tree climbing, working farms, and many more places.

Girls in a running club

Girls On The Run

Girls on the Run is an afterschool program for our 3rd-5th grade girls. It inspires girls of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skills development.  At the end of the season, the team competes in a 5K together, which provides a sense of accomplishment.

Families On Campus

Westgate has many opportunities throughout the year for students and families to come together during the school day and share daily classroom learning experiences.  Events like Family Reading Day, student led conferences, STEM Night, 5th Grade Science Lab, and Bring Your Grown Up to School Day.

PBIS Student Rewards

Westgate has a strong PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports) program.  Students are rewarded for meeting behavior expectations in the classroom and around campus. Students earn individual "Willie Bucks" that can be redeemed in their classroom for treasure box, a trip to the school store, or special event.  Classes work together to earn "class paw" rewards such as extra recess, Friday dance party, VIP table at lunch time.

Westgate Traditions

Students look forward to many fun traditions at Westgate that have been celebrated by generations of families.  Every year, we have our annual color fun run, Spring carnival, and PE water-filled Field Day. 5th grade students invite their families to a year-end BBQ and yearbook signing.

Westgate Safety Patrol Program

News Crew/Safety Patrols are a select group of 5th Graders that are committed to providing a safe school environment for all students. Being a part of the News Crew/Safety Patrol is a year-long commitment.  Participation in the program offers students an early opportunity to learn service to others and leadership skills.

Girlfriends Mentoring

Girlfriends of Pinellas County is a mentorship and empowerment program designed to support girls in developing strong academic skills, self-confidence, leadership, and positive behaviors. Through mentorship from educators, and community members, participants gain the tools they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom
